Crafting a Literary Identity in the Heart of Gilroy

THE SITUATION REPORT:

Tucked into the heart of Gilroy, California—known to locals as the Garlic Capital of the World—Garlic City Books was more than a neighborhood bookstore. It was a gathering place for curious minds, creative spirits, and community connection. As an independent used bookstore, it needed a brand identity that could rise above the generic and root itself in place, purpose, and personality. That’s when Vinciguerra Creative stepped in.

THE IMPACT ZONE:

We crafted a brand identity that fused literary culture with local flavor—literally. The logo combined a stylized bulb of garlic with the textured spine of a book, creating a visual wink that was both smart and memorable. It gave Garlic City Books something most indie bookstores never quite find: an unmistakable symbol that belonged entirely to them. The result? A hometown storefront turned local landmark, with a brand bold enough to earn an ADDY® Award from AAF Northeast Pennsylvania.
